Greenland 2: Migration - (review)

Greenland 2: Migration is a grim but optimistic sequel of the fight of humanity to survive following an apocalyptic asteroid strike. The movie throws the audience into a bleak and frozen post-apocalyptic world, in which the Garrity family will have to leave the relative safety of their Greenland bunker and go on a dangerous journey through the destroyed world of Europe. The story is an account of the anarchy and strength of the human soul during electromagnetic storms, earthquakes, and bandit-ridden wastelands. Its main idea, a struggle to starvation on its way to a new home, is very relatable with the focus on such values as hope, sacrifice and the desire to live despite the impossibility to overcome the necessity to resist.

The shows are emotional particularly when the family is losing and betraying each other in the struggle to remain united. The emotional nature of the story is provided by Allison, bravery of John and youthfulness of Nathan and the introduction of new characters such as Camille who brings compassion and camaraderie to the story. The direction is skillful in developing tension-induced scenes crossing the English Channel, escaping bandits, and arriving at the fertile crater with every scene increasing the antecedent and the situation of the fragile hope of renewal. Cinematography records the ghostly beauty of the frozen wasteland, the transient moments of the recovery of the Earth, and supports the themes of resilience and rebirth in the movie.

The depiction of human resilience in the wake of the devastation and the feeling that even when everything is almost ruined, life still manages to survive were the most touching. I was inspired and thoughtful after watching the movie which portrayed the healing process in the world as per the real scientific theories. A vibrant testament to hope in the face of despair, “Greenland 2: Migration” is an exciting adventure and an emotional experience of renewal, as it reminds the viewer of the fact that, despite the most desperate moments in human existence, hope can always be employed to achieve salvation and the desire to rebuild and begin anew.
