Hostage S01 (2025) is an intricate political thriller that makes its audience experience the tense twist and play of international relations, personal sacrifices, and dilemmas. The kidnapping of the British Prime Minister husband in French Guiana and the blackmailing of the French President over a scandal means that stakes could not be higher. The twin crises are on the verge of triggering a diplomatic disaster that will require two very strong women, one a UK leader with an NHS-first agenda and the other a realist French president to seek a compromise with each other, despite their political difference of opinion. The show shows how easily alliances can be broken in the world where trust is hardly present and each choice can be a life-changing event.
These performances are excellent particularly of the leading characters of Abigail Dalton and Vivien Toussaint. Dalton is a strong character who remains strong and determined in the middle of the mess, whereas Toussaint is a complex character who manages to cope with scandals and political influence with power and compassion. The relationship between the two women turns out to be the emotional center of the series emphasizing the theme of cooperation and respect towards each other in hard times.
