Je Jatt Vigarh Gya is a crass Punjabi action film that explores how Daler, who was role-played by Jayy Randhawa, can transform into a brutal and simple person, to a fierce fighter who is relentless in his way. The movie revolves around the undying love of Daler to his family, particularly to his sister who is pregnant, which makes him go over the limit after they succumb to a criminal gang and injustice. Daled with the natural behavior of his era and corruption, the path of Daler may be characterized by a radical transformation of a law-abiding individual to a ruthless fighter, ready to do everything in his power to protect his beloved ones. The story is full of crude feelings of family relations mixed with idealistic violence, as it touches upon the concepts of loyalty, revenge, and justice.
The narration is dramatic and emotionally loaded, and the change experienced by Daler seems honest and resonant. The movie captures well his internal fighting as he goes through a corrupt system and the sacrifices and ethical dilemmas of people who want to seek justice. The action sequences are stylized which provides a gritty touch to the story, though the tone of the film is shaped on the emotional issues concerning family and honor. The rough nature of Jayy Randhawa adds layers to the character of Daler as well as makes his development realistic and interesting to watch.
What struck the chord the most was the emotional essence of the narrative – the passionate love to the family and which extent one can take to keep the family safe. The movie made me feel anger about the unfairness and respect towards the uncompromising determination of Daler. Although this film contains some of the traditional aspects of the action films, the film Je Jatt Vigarh Gya is impressively memorable, as it shows a man struggling to resist a corrupt system and save his loved ones with his life and blood, and finally showing how strong family ties and sacrifice can be.
