Make It with You S01 Pt.2 - (review)

Make It with You S01 is a heartwarming series that addresses the quirks of love, in a stunning setting of Croatia. The show is emotionally enriched through the assistance of good acting of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil whose relationship elevates their otherwise below average romance to a new level. The theme of sacrifice, hope and self-discovery are easy to identify because the characters of the play Billie and Gabo are grappling with their inner conflict; in particular, Billie was dedicated to her family bakery and Gabo was seeking a place to belong.

It is a visually interesting show that depicts the rich landscape and historical nature of Croatia, which provides a certain feeling of escapism and makes the viewers lose their sense of time in the dimensions of characters. The music also helps to strengthen the emotional atmosphere and fluidly switches between playful and depressing tunes; the sweeping shots of the camera leave one to feel desiring and wishing. The director and the production design slightly emphasize the conflicts within the characters, their personal ways are more natural and closer to each other.

The show has certain strong points, but occasionally it tends to fall into the pit of clichés of rom-coms and in some cases, there are some cases of predictable dialogue and some issues of pacing when the scenes are more dialogue-driven. However, the only thing that stuck in my mind was the manner, in which the show explores the vulnerability of individual desires over family wants. The manner in which Billie attempts to save her family bakery when she falls in love with Gabo is an emotive account on ensuring things come first. Generally speaking, Make It with You is a poignant film about love and the compromises required to maintain that love and the resultant outcome is optimistic and encouraging to the audience.
