A sweet little coming of age movie, “Milk Money” is set in an suburban town combining innocence, adventure and the darker aspects of adult life. It is a story of a young boy, Frank, and his friends, who are innocent and inquisitive about the world, and thus they suffer and meet V, a prostitute with in her heart. Their first intention to visit a naked woman is transformed in something to have a great meaning as they get to befriend V, who becomes their friend and teacher. The film brings out the theme of innocence, compassion and desire to relate through interactions with each other and how true relationships can be achieved under least expected situations.
V is a complicated character–a woman, who attempts to leave the depressing past and start a new life. Her relationship with Frank and his father, Tom, develops as a sweet relationship leading the stereotypes about her job. The movie is able to portray the innocence of childhood and the compassion that has the ability to heal the fissures between various worlds. In the meantime, there are some darker elements of the story like the criminal underworld in the person of Waltzer and Cash which threatens to ruin V in his newly established life. The climax of the tension is a dramatic chase, which focuses on the motives of redemption and struggle towards a new life.
Finally, the message of kindness, forgiveness, and second chances with a warm touch is conveyed by Milk Money. The story of V as a troubled prostitute and her reclaiming herself to her life is emotionally empowering and heart-touching. The movie is well balanced in humor, tension, and emotional moments, though, reminding moviegoers of the strengths of the human spirit. It is a heart-warming thought about becoming a teenager, the meaning of empathy, and the hope that everybody requires a second opportunity at redemption, which is why the story is a moving and immensely memorable one of love and the empathy in the world of the chaos of life.
