Raaz reboot is a paranoid horror movie that explores the evil background and the hidden heartaches behind a seemingly happy family. The novel is about a newlywed couple, Rehaan and Shaina, who go back to Romania, the country where they fell in love, only to be bothered by haunting events. Shaina is facing some disturbing supernatural experiences, but Rehaan ignores her fears not knowing the deeper guilt and secrets that hold them together. The story is carefully told in alternating between the past and the present where a tragic background is gradually unveiled including the crime that Rehaan had committed in the past and the vengeful soul and this starts to come back and pose a danger to their lives. The movie touches upon the issues of guilt, revenge, destructive force of secrets, which provide the tense atmosphere and helps the viewers to remain interested by slow-burning suspense and emotional lifeline.
The acting is persuasive and the actors do a good job of showing the emotional upheavals and terror that suffuses the play. The camera work and the direction are brilliant in establishing a chilling atmosphere, through Romanian scenery, dark lighting, and planned scares to make the fear even more intense. The music increases the tension and the special effects add a touch of realism to the supernatural. There are some stuttering pacing moments, particularly when the back story is being told, but the climax presents a great mix of horror and emotional purge. The melting ice is a beautiful symbolic end to the film, which indicates how the emotions melt and reconcile following the dark phase of depression and hopelessness.
The theme that struck me the most about the film was the exploration of how secrets and guilt can be seen as haunting to the life of a person and in many cases this is done through external horrors. It gave me a feeling of both fear and sympathies, highlighting that it is necessary to deal with the past in order to be peaceful. Nevertheless, the movie “Raaz Reboot” is a great horror movie where the supernatural thrills are linked to the emotional truth and the final impression about the necessity of being honest, forgiving, and confronting with the ghosts inside.
