I entered the world of Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire with a curious and hesitant mind of what to expect with this high-octane tale of power, bloodshed and betrayal. What then ensued was a film experience which skilfully combined the strands of intricate characters, heart-stopping plot twists, and heart-thumping action sequences. It is juxtaposed by the story of a monarchial government in the city-state of Khansaar of 1985 where two inseparable friends-turned-foes Deva and Vardha are involved in a bloody power battle.
The best thing about the film is that it is an action/emotion balancing movie. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Chiranjeevi play the dual roles of the multifaceted, brooding Deva and the scheming, merciless Vardha respectively in a very convincing manner. The friendship-enmity of them turns out to be even more believable and heart-wrenching by their on-screen chemistry. The visual narration of the film is also impressive as the camera work and the amazing production design take a viewer to the dark, violent world of 1980s Khansaar.
When I walked out of the theater, I was unable to stop feeling slightly uncomfortable, having the impression of the disorder and devastation that is at the core of this saga. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is a fierce, gut-wrenching ride you will never forget and you will be longing to go back to. This movie is an indispensable addition to go-see list of those who enjoy watching deep and thrilling movies.
