The movie “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior” is an epic historical action film that beautifully depicts the greatness of valor and the sacrifice of a great Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare. The battles and the maneuvers used in the battle against the Kondhana fort, which was a key stronghold in 17 th century India are exceptionally well documented in the film. The fact that Tanhaji was loyal, courageous, and tactical in his moves appealed to the greater readers and enabled them to admire his devoted service to his king and citizens. His heroism inspired me and humbled me at the same time through the emotional impact of his personal sacrifices particularly when he was being tortured and engaged in a fight.
The film is an eye piece visually, the battle scenes and massive set pieces are breathtaking and the costumes are very rich and worthwhile in their recreation of the historical era. Cinematography is dynamic and captures rough landscapes and violent battles exposing the viewers to the chaos and heroism of every action. The sound design and score increase the emotional tension, particularly when the characters have to make personal sacrifices and when they win. The acting, especially of the main actor playing Tanhaji, is full of power and determination and it provides the emotional center of the film between the epic action.
The aspect of patriotism, loyalty, and endurance despite the adversity is what impressed me most about the film. The aggressive nature of Tanhaji and his readiness to give in everything towards his cause caused a great impression. Although the movie sometimes touches on melodramatic, the scenes only work to enhance the emotional value, instead of taking away the value. Altogether, Tanhaji is an eloquent ode to an unrecognized hero who remains brave and inspires even now after seeing this film, people have a new understanding of the sacrifices which were made in the name of freedom and honor.
