“Trigger Warning” It is a fast-paced, morally-charged thriller that will have the audience on the edge of their seats to the very end. Parker, an extremely professional CIA agent, goes back to her native city, in search of the truth behind the suspicious death of her father, but on the contrary, she gets caught in an intrigue of corruption, weapon trafficking, and political intrigues. The story is an excellent mixture of high-stress action scenes and rough detective work that helps to create a tense mood and emphasis on the seriousness of her journey to justice. The movie is filled with dark and unforgiving atmosphere and this contrast between brutal battle scenes and emotional nakedness renders it a gut-wrenching experience that the audience will remember long after they switch off the television set.
The characters are also well-thought, particularly Parker, whose resourcefulness and determination are the reason she is a strong protagonist. The sinister Swann are the corrupt Ezekiel and his son Elvis, who are convincingly evil as they are greedy and morally corrupt. The other participating actors such as Jesse, Spider, and the friends Parker enlists in the process give humanity and camaraderie in the times of chaos. The action is skillfully intermingled with spy detective and fast-paced rhythm. The cinematography communicates the grime and tension of every moment, the score escalates the adrenaline and emotional tension, putting the audience in the middle of the dangerous world that Parker lives.
What particularly impressed me was that the film also dealt with the theme of loyalty, sacrifice and truth. The struggle that Parker is engaging in against corruption is not only about physical survival, but also about regaining her father and his honor and justice. Her personal loss, which carries an emotional weight to it, and the overall brutal action amount to a compelling story that makes an unforgettable impression. The plot may sometimes be skewed to the point of being too dense, but the gritty realistic nature of the film and the moralistic undertones drive it to be a great adrenaline-driving story of how to survive and to take revenge.
