AGASOBANUYE LIVE

Doing Life - (review)

*Doing Life* is a hopeful drama about two people trying to rebuild their lives while carrying the weight of their pasts. Anika Morrison, a struggling single mother and correctional officer, forms an unexpected bond with Carousel White, an incarcerated man who once protected her during a violent prison riot. Their connection deepens through heartfelt letters, offering each of them comfort, understanding, and a reason to imagine a different future.

When Carousel receives early parole, the pair try to turn their friendship into a relationship. He must adjust to life outside prison and show that he has truly changed, while Anika balances motherhood, work, and her own hopes for the future. Their romance faces resistance from Anika’s family, who distrust Carousel because of his criminal history. Anika also struggles to trust him, shaped by past disappointments. A misunderstanding involving Kiki, a lawyer helping Carousel, briefly intensifies her fears.

The film’s most moving idea is that a second chance is not a clean slate: it takes patience, honesty, and the courage to be vulnerable. Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves bring warmth to the central relationship, and Anika’s daughter gives the story’s choices added emotional stakes. Though some conflicts feel familiar, the drama’s compassionate tone keeps its focus on the people behind their circumstances. After the misunderstanding is resolved, Carousel supports Anika’s dream of nursing school, and the couple chooses to face the future together. *Doing Life* leaves viewers with a simple, affecting message: love cannot undo the past, but mutual faith can help make a new beginning possible.
