AGASOBANUYE LIVE

Lupin Season 04 - (review)

In Lupin Part 4, the tone of the series changes from being a light hearted heist thriller, to a family tragedy. Four years have passed and Assane seems to be on the verge of getting out of prison, and he would like to start his life anew with Claire and Raoul. However, a series of robberies at museums, done in his typical fashion, makes him the obvious suspect with deep-fake video evidence. When he’s forced out and on a mission to investigate, he finds a copycat and a conspiracy that goes right back to his own childhood.

Assane’s troubled family is the emotional core of the season. Claire and Benjamin have a life together, and Raoul, an adult now, feels all alone, betrayed by his father’s long string of broken promises. Meanwhile, Raoul feels more bitter about Assane after learning that he now has a new daughter named Adèle. That hurt propels Pellegrini into a plot with Raoul that results in the theft of the secret treasure and a harsh judgment: Adèle vs. his son, Assane must decide.

The complicated robberies and turns add to the familiar charge of the show, but the family drama adds a sharper layer to them. While Assane can outsmart security systems and escape from prison, he can’t easily undo the damage that his absences have caused. In the cliffhanger, as police close in on Raoul, Pellegrini escapes and Assane is shot as he stops the police firing at his son. The season concludes on a saddening affecting note: Assane’s love offering is also his most costly, as well as the family’s wounds remain unsolved.
