I, Frankenstein - (review)

The I, Frankenstein is a graphic adaptation of the ancient monster legend, which is coupled with the elements of the gothic horror and contemporary fantasy and action. The movie takes a new twist of the monster of Frankenstein by mirroring him as an ancient history warrior trapped in a battle between the angels and the demons that gives the story a mythic catheterism. It is a very ambitious story which combines motifs of identity, redemption, and the endless war between good and evil. What impressed me the most was how the creature evolved to be not a lone, haunted individual but a fighter of humankind, which added to a strong message of an ability to change and struggle to achieve the purpose despite its original form of monstrosity.

Graphically, the movie is a delight to the eyes. The gloomy, somber gothic structures, the intricate creature design, and the action packed sequences make it an immersive and atmosphere filled experience. The CGI works in making the monstrous and angelic creatures, and the reanimated dead bodies alive, but in certain instances it is inclined to over-the-top. The score is an appropriate addition to the tone of the film and highlights the grandeur of the war and the stakes of the individual soldier. The rhythm is fast, as there are one-liner battles, scenes of pursuit, and revelations that made my gaze stuck to the screen all the time.

What impressed me most was the inner soul, the internal struggle of Adam and his need to belong somewhere. The fact that his relationship with the gargoyles and Terra was changing contributed to the empathy to the disorder. The action-packed climax of the film, with its alliance trials, when the world and humanity at large is put in a balance, made me not only exhilarated but also pensive towards the themes of free will and destiny. Although it occasionally overshot the visual imagery and plot twist, I, Frankenstein, in the end, presented a rather dark and compelling adventure, which made me feel not only adrenaline but also a bit of hope of the redemption something even bigger than what the monster can see.
