Strong Woman Do Bong-soon S01″ is a fresh and fun combination of comedy, romance and action that centers on an absolutely quirky female lead armed with extraordinary powers. Super-strength, passed down from her family, is the power that makes Do Bong-soon (Park Bo-young) so strong, and it’s a gift that she’s seeking to pass down to her son. Her sincere aspiration to make a video game of her character, plus her wish to be more fragile and refined to get her crush, makes her character also very relatable to wear. The series is both inspiring and endearing, as she’s a character who has superpowers, yet has moments of self-discovery and societal expectations.
The chemistry between Bong-soon and Ahn Min-hyuk, who are played with lightness and flair by Park Hyung-sik and Ahn Ye-jin, is at the heart of the series. Bong-soon is a quirky and a rule-breaking CEO, who soon realizes that she has more to offer than her muscles, and finds herself growing into a humorous and tender position. There’s additional excitement in the form of a series of kidnappings that plague their neighborhood, and which Bong-soon decides to solve, enhancing the dynamic between them. The show is funny and heart string-pulling as it’s full of fun, love and action.
Led with vibrant and dynamic energy, “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon” is a delightful and touching drama with its engaging personalities and touchy situations. The series is a beautiful representation of empowerment, friendship and love, leaving the viewer with a warm and uplifting feeling. The thing I really connected with, was Bong-soon’s journey of self-acceptance and her resolve to use her strength for good – the strength and kindness that make her so extraordinary. A feel-good series, it is a celebration of authenticity and love.
