The Season 1 of Blood River is an engaging piece of immersion into the shadowy, unsafe world of martial arts murderers with captivating mystery, insincerity and deceit. The TV series is a brilliant way of establishing a world whereby there is an amalgamation of honor, lies and there is life and death. Ever since the Grand Elders of the Dark River organization are poisoned the story is catapulted into a raging force of power that keeps the viewers on the edge of their seat. The main body of the narrative that is devoted to Su Muyu, a young and naive swordsman that is caught in the eddy of the political chaos, is a moving and dramatic tale. That he was true to his course despite betrayal indicates to the immortal human spirit in the presence of cold mechanism.
The characters are well-developed, and the protagonist, Su Muyu, his sense of justice and willpower which enables him to be close to the reader is a hero who has to operate in the waters of the deception. The complexity of interaction between the clans, friends, and enemies introduces some tension to the interaction, which results in every encounter being meaningful. The staging of production is gorgeous and enthralling the mystic martial art world; and the attention paid to the costumes, scenery, and scenes of choreographed fighter ensure a sense of grandeur and menace. The speed of the series is quite high, and in each episode, action, strategies, and emotional results are mixed. The music augments the drama because it emphasizes the scenes of tension and as well as introspection.
It was to the credit of the play, however, that there came the play of loyalty to the question of personal morality: a theme which touched me on a very personal note. The viewer experienced the emotional element concerning the sight of Su Muyu, who was battling two sides, one of them being the ties to his clan and another one to his own doctrines. Through the show I got to rethink the meaning of loyalty and sacrifices that one has to make to defend personal values in the corrupt world. Blood River Season 1 is a martial arts drama, which is full of action but mixed with dramatic moral questions and I am quite eager to see in which direction the story will take. It is a fascinating account of a dark war, where honor is an illusive thing, but it is the light of the warrior.
