First Lady S01 - (review)

First Lady is an interesting and touching drama that exposes the life of Melody who starts as a humble woman who becomes a nanny but later on becomes the first lady of the country when she marries President Glenn. The series skillfully reflects on her emotional turmoil as she maneuvers around the vast expectations and the burden of duties she must bear being in her new position in the society. With all the political pressure and sacrifices involved in her life, Melody is taught to stay true to herself and it brings a powerful message of being true to yourself regardless of the outward force.

The scenes are subtle and captivating as Sanya Lopez presents a rebellious attitude to the role of Melody and the elements of fragility and strength. Glenn played by Gabby Concepcion is a multi-layered character who is both a presidential candidate and a husband who cares about his wife. The strong cast supports the plot, providing it color and realness, whereas the direction serves to provide the plot with a good flow of personal moments and political intrigue. The series has excellent cinematography and production design visually, as well as photographed both the majesty of the world of the First Lady and the close-up of her personal issues. The music score helps momentously to beautify emotional moments and the viewer associates with the characters in their respective journeys.

The most notable thing was the central theme of the series, which is that the best form of leadership and love is being oneself. It is inspiring and relatable that Melody is able to realize that she can be useful without losing her originality. Although the plot lines might be predictable, it is important to mention that they contribute to building emotional tension, which will make First Lady a series that is enjoyable and, at the same time, provides substantial insights into identity, love, and resilience. It gave me a positive and optimistic impression of the strength of true self-acceptance in the face of life difficulties.
