Disclosure Day is a thrilling sci-fi thriller that delves into the implications of mankind discovering alien life. The story follows Margaret Fairchild, a weather anchor who after a peculiar event, is suddenly able to speak alien languages, and raises the general curiosity and fear. At the same time, Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity expert that has obtained classified government documents detailing alien contact and extraterrestrial experiments, is arrested. As they strive to uncover the truth, their lives become entangled with one another, each playing a role in their efforts to survive amidst the shadows of government officials, enigmatic partners and perilous adversaries intent on preserving the secret. Well done for a film that artfully heightens the personal with the global, making for tense moments, ones filled with surprise and moral quandaries about humanity’s preparedness for cosmic revelations.
The acting is very good, particularly that of the lead actress as Margaret, a normal meteorologist who becomes a channel for alien contact. The focus is on slick cinematography and atmosphere, which further compounds the fear and dread. The score intensifies key moments of escape and revelation, immersing viewers in the escalating tension. The story plays out themes of truth, secrecy, and a possible unification or division of the human species, and whether or not humanity can embrace the knowledge of alien life without fear and conflict.
The theme that spoke to me the most was the search for hope in the midst of uncertainty, and the need for truth in all people. The viewer is left with a mixture of awe and apprehension as he considers his role in the universe and his ability to comprehend and/or ignore it. A timely reminder of the power and danger of secrets and how the discovery of cosmic life could revolutionise everything – politically, spiritually, and socially. The movie leaves viewers wondering, “Are we ready for the universe’s biggest secret?
