Bhooth Bangla - (review)

Bhooth Bangla: A Chilling Descent into the Heart of Darkness”. I just came out of “Bhooth Bangla” to get my head around the arctic chill. Directed by Arjun Perera, the film is a superb layering of family secrets, cursed inheritance, and supernatural terror that takes you to the haunted and sinister halls of Mangalpur’s palace. The eeriness, breathtaking cinematography, and pulse pounding story of Bhooth Bangla had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

The characters at the centre of the gripping story are the most interesting, especially Arjun Acharya (Anupam Kher), who’s at a crossroads, torn between his love for his family and his need to find out the dark secrets of his ancestral home. The supporting cast, led by Manoj Pandey and Nikesha Patel, also performs well, enhancing the story. The pacing of the film is well done, with the tension and suspense rising as the dark elements within the palace start to show themselves.

The fact that “Bhooth Bangla” deals with the concept of inherited trauma and the burden of family history was the aspect that touched me the most. The lighting, shadowing and atmosphere in the film is used to produce a foreboding atmosphere and an inability to look away from the horrors that unfold. The score is quite good, it heightens the tension and fear that runs through each scene. In all, “Bhooth Bangla” is essential viewing for anybody with horror and suspense preferences, as a riveting experience that will shake and disturb you.
