Beauty in Black Season 3 is a riveting and intense look into power, revenge and family loyalty. The season focuses on the chaos after the FBI raids, as Kimmie and Mallory aim to keep the control of the Bellarie empire in their own hands, while they are faced with internal betrayals and external threats. Their partnership born out of their struggles is not without its tensions, as enemies scheme to assert themselves once again. As Jules pursues her path of vengeance for the sake of justice, her journey becomes more and more brutal, showing the devastating effects of grief and trauma. The film’s darker atmosphere puts the audience into the grim reality of a world that has a hazy sense of the moral and that survival is often at a high price.
Multiple character arcs are skillfully woven into the season, showing their weaknesses and complexities. As Kimmie and Mallory are forced to lead and navigate through treacherous waters, Jules’ quest for revenge becomes more violent and vicious. The feud between Horace and Norman comes to a dramatic conclusion, while Charles’ emotional breakdown throws the situation into a human equation. Acting is strong, characters are showing raw emotion and moral ambiguity, making the impact of the story more. The season’s gritty cinematography and atmospheric score add to the tense, noir-like vibe, upping the ante at key moments.
The emotional heart of the season rang true, even if there were a couple of moments that were melodramatic and a few pacing problems. The events at the strip club were so violent that I was breathless and wanting more at the end of that. Beauty in Black Season 3 is an ambitious and potent season that sees the series take on a darker tone than its predecessor, both thematically and emotionally, with its raw, unflinching storytelling and nuanced characters. It was a time which brought me many emotions – anger, sadness, hope, and fear.
